This happened again:
Yes twice in less than 12 months we have been to the ER for broken left arms. Darn it. Colton and Jaxon were upstairs "playing legos" while I was doing a few things on the computer. Turns out "playing legos" actually meant jumping from the baby's new crib to the bed next to it. A feat that Jaxon is capable of, but Colton, obviously, didn't execute quite so well. The result was a broken radius and ulna. Both the breaks are minor buckle fractures in his wrist. I was so thankful last fall that Madison broke her arm after summer was pretty much over. We didn't have to worry about her not being able to swim. No such luck this go-round. Colton has spent the last two weeks like this:
Thankfully he hasn't seemed to bugged by having one arm wrapped in saran wrap and a plastic bag. Unfortunately, we can't swim with him. He can do splash parks and sprinklers, but he can't submerge his arm because his cast gets soaked. We did try swimming with his cast. The day after we got it. While we were out of town in Houston. The cast got soaked and we ended up in some random dr. office getting a new one. Not my best moment as a mother. I felt so lame.
Aside from the broken arm incident we've had a busy couple of weeks. Madison finished up swim team at "B" regionals, which is the meet for the kids who don't qualify for the "A" meet. She placed 4th overall in the 50 meter freestyle!!
We had some cousin fun, too! Uncle Jon was out of town for two weeks, so we had the big boys over to play a couple times. They all had a great time swimming (obviously this was pre-break).
We went to cheer Chris on at his softball game. His team as done a lot better this season! The kids love to go "watch" aka. play with their friends.
Colton didn't want to be in the first pic, but this pic of just Chris and Colton was too cute to leave out.
We cut scraggly Jaxon's surfer hair into a pretty sweet mohawk! It's a fun summer cut, but it will be gone before he starts school :)
Colton wanted a mohawk, too! Also, you may notice he is wearing undies in this picture! I finally got around to potty training him on 4th of July weekend! I had intended to do it much sooner, but with morning sickness and moving it just didn't happen! He was a breeze to potty train, though, until he broke his arm, now we have to be extra careful he doesn't get his cast "contaminated."
One of the nights Jon was out of town we had a cousin sleepover. Which resulted in a trip to the ER and three stitches for Austin. This was only 4 days before Colton broke his arm. Yes, that's right. I sent two kids to the ER in less than a week. Thankfully, it wasn't anything I could have prevented, but seriously.
Colton's arm has resulted in a need for me to be much more creative about child entertainment. Cause our normal routine was to just go and swim a couple hours every day. One day we got our annual library reading coupons and we were pleased to discover that one of the coupons was a full kids meal from Firehouse subs, which is our favorite sub place! Those coupons have been a life-saver the last couple weeks, since I can't afford to pay for daily entertainment for my kids!
We have also been frequenting splash parks! It's been fun to change things up, but I REALLY miss just going swimming. Oh well, it's definitely not the end of the world.
